Problem

For the 40th Anniversary event at IMM, there needs to me functional ways of spreading information and keeping attendees organized effectively.

Objective

Use IMM’s existing brand and create a sub branding to print wayfinding information for attendees. Create supplemental print and digital materials to connect attendees with IMM projects and objectives.

Process and Solution

Sub branding for the 40th features gold and blue, highlighting important people and features. Gifts for guests were designed with function in mind, and all items were printed several weeks in advance for assembly.

IMM’s website was also redesigned to give guests a central hub for information to reference during their travel.

Brand Style Elements

Hand Printed Gift Bags

Different types of print were developed for the event. I hand carved the IMM logo to pay tribute to the analog roots of IMM’s history. Each gift bag had a hand printed tag with a personal welcome on the reverse side.

Inside the gift bag were several printed items to make the guests feel welcome and taken care of while traveling in Spain.

Branded Nametags

Different brand designs for staff (blue), guests (white), and IMM forever alumni (gold)

Functional Design

Two items were designed specifically for guests: the coffee card and the allergy card.

Coffee Card: this card was designed to help guests order coffee in Spain. With descriptions in english and key phrases highlighted, guests could use this card to order their coffee and see how it would be made visually.

Allergy Card: On the front, guests fill in their allergies with an on-site spanish speaking nurse. At restaurants, guests can show this card to a Spanish speaking waiter to help communicate their allergies. On the reverse side, guests are given important information and emergency contacts.

Hot Spots and City Map

Several staff members contributed and shared their favorite spots around the city IMM’s guests were staying in. This was gifted along with a tourist map of the city, and combined guests would have a well-rounded, self-guided itinerary of the city.

Welcome Brochure

The primary piece designed for the event was a welcome brochure. Featuring a welcome letter from IMM’s president and a full itinerary of the week, each guest was given one in their welcome gift bag.

Celebrate 40 Banquet

For the Anniversary Banquet, I worked with another designer to create a packet of project flyers for each guest, displayed with a branded invitation card, envelope and donation slip, and tucked into a semi-opaque decorative package.

Guests were encouraged to take these pieces home with them and consider donating to help each upcoming project enter production.

Results

We had over 50 international guests hosted in Madrid for 7 days of events, a gala, and fundraising dinner supported by distinctly branded IMM print and digital design.

Conclusions

It’s important to reach into history and legacy for effective branding. People will be able to relate to the materials and the connection will last in their memory.
